In a recent discussion within the Expression Web Facebook group, many of us reported receiving the following error when trying to publish via ftp within Expression Web. Expression Web connects to the remote server, lists the files BUT when you try and publish you see this.
Tina Clarke contacted her host (Bluehost) about it and they gave her this link. https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/.../microsoft... Where it discusses the problem.
Finally figured everything out. It was Windows Firewall blocking publishing and causing this "Ready to proceed 200" error. All I had to do is to use "Allow App Through Firewall" feature in windows 10, then adding "Microsoft Expression 4" app to the list of apps in Windows Firewall and checking "Public" box. As soon as I did this, everything is back to normal. No more error when publishing. Apparently after the newest windows 10 2004 update, windows started to block some of the apps. So, you have to add the app to the firewall and allow it. Sometimes windows asks you if you want to allow blocked app, but in the case with EW4 you probably have to add and allow it manually if you get the error.
How you correct this problem on YOUR computer will depend on what Firewall you are using, the native one in Windows or one that is part of YOUR virus program.
I am using McAfee Total Protection, so went in search of where that setting was located. Mine were under Settings > Firewall > Internet Connections for Programs. Expression Web 4 was already listed with "Designated Ports" and "On" which is most cases (according to McAfee) should have worked. I changed it to "All Devices" and saved the changes.
At the same time, you will need to make sure that under your Publishing Settings "Use Passive FTP" is NOT checked. If you had to change it, you will need to restart Expression Web.
If you are using the native Firewall with Windows, you will need to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Firewall & Network Protection > Allow an app through firewall. See How to allow apps through firewall on Windows 10 for additional information.
Remember, Google is your friend if you need more info on your specific virus/firewall program.
Thanks again to Tina Clarke for finding the solution.
